MONUMENT TO MARTIROS SARYAN

The
monument is located at the intersection of Mashtots
and Baghramyan avenues and Zoryan street, in the park named after Martiros
Saryan. The authors are sculptor, National Artist of the
Republic of Armenia Levon Tokmajyan and National Architect of
the Armenian SSR Arthur Tarkhanyan. It is dedicated to the world-famous artist,
founder of the modern national school of Armenian painting Martiros Saryan
(1880-1972).
The
sculpture is made of white Ural marble, is 5.40 m high and is placed on a
three-tiered pedestal of gray basalt, in the left corner of the lower tier of
which is a 1.5 x 1.5 m granite slab with the symbol of eternity and the
artist's gilded autograph. In the right corner of the middle tier, Saryan's
name is engraved in Russian.
In the sculpture, Saryan is seated in a majestic position, holding a palette. The white marble creates a soft color combination with the greenery of the park, emphasizing the solemn, pathetic nature of the sculpture.
