RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
1927
Located on Pushkin
Street.
In
the 1930s, the building belonged to the People’s Commissariat of Internal
Affairs of the Armenian SSR. In the basements of the building, many
representatives of the Armenian intelligentsia spent their final days. Later,
it housed the Russian Pedagogical Institute named after Andrei Zhdanov, and
subsequently the Emergency Situations Department.
The
floor plan has a uniform corridor layout across all three floors. Staircases
are located in the end wings. Rooms are lit from the eastern and western
façades. The main street-facing façade is oriented to the east and has a
symmetrical architectural composition. The end wings slightly project from the
main volume, with entrances located at their corners. Architectural features
include small rectangular and polygonal balconies and rectangular openings.
The
fourth floor was added later. The façades were partially preserved, and a new
high-rise structure was attached.
The
foundation’s first two layers are made of rough basalt, while the pilasters,
window frames, and profiled cornice are made of black finely cut tuff. The
remaining surfaces are plastered.
