HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
YEREVAN MUNICIPALITY
2004
State Prize of the Republic of Armenia: 2007
The building is located on
Argishti Street.
The construction of the new
administrative building of the Yerevan Municipality began in 1984 by decision
of the USSR government, based on the design by architect Jim Torosyan, and
continued until 1991, when it was halted due to the situation in the country.
The building was redesigned in 2003, preserving the original concept while
adapting it to modern requirements. Construction was completed on November 26,
2004. Instead of the initial four-story design, a five-story building was
constructed, with a redesigned 47-meter-high tower and a total area of 13,500
m², part of which is allocated to the Yerevan History Museum.
The building is constructed in
the traditions of national architecture, using orange finely dressed tuff, and
is distinguished by rich decoration, including relief sculptures, depictions of
the Tree of Life and the map of Yerevan, as well as columns engraved with the
names of Armenian capitals.
