HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
YEREVAN STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY AFTER MKHITAR HERATSI
1938-1955
It is located at the intersection of
Abovyan and Koryun Streets. The building was constructed in two phases: in
1938, the central section and the Abovyan Street wing were completed, and in
1955, the dome and the Koryun Street wing were finished.
It is distinguished by the clarity of its
planning and compositional solutions. The five-story central volume with a dome
is flanked by four-story side wings. Lecture halls and laboratories are located
on the courtyard side, while on the opposite side, wide corridors run along the
wings.
The façades are executed in a unified style
and feature a pronounced cornice. Black tuff and gray basalt from the village
of Kaputan were used as building materials.
The building is one of the major
educational institutions in Yerevan, a monumental work of Soviet Armenian
architecture, and plays an important role in the development of this urban
node.
