The building is located at the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Aram Street, at  Mashtots Avenue 22. In 1931, by the decision of the Government of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic “Institute of Maternal and child protection” was established in Yerevan. In 1937, it was renamed as “Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology”, and in 1989 - “Research Center of Maternal and Child Health Protection”. Among Yerevanian people it is known under the names “Margaryan Hospital” and “Margaryan Maternity Hospital”. Initially, it held a name of Nadezhda Krupskaya, then held a name of the Professor Partev Margaryan honored figure of science. The construction of the maternity hospital building was planned as the building of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR, but connected with the construction of the 1st Government House at Lenin’s (now Republic) Square, its construction was frozen by architect Alexander Tamanyan, the author of the city’s master plan.

In 1932, however, the project was approved, and the first floor of the hospital (with 100 beds) was built, which mostly determined the exterior of the building. In 1935, there was launched the construction of the maternity hospital on already constructed basement floor according to the new project elaborated by architect Mark Grigoryan.

The building has a proportional solution. The lateral twin buildings are united through a semi-circular volume, which prevails in the overall extensive dimensional solution. That part has a projecting lower floor, where the main entrance three-arched opening is created, and a pentagonal rotunda-like volume behind the 2nd and 3rd floors. The whole dimension is crowned by a cornice which continues towards lateral sides. Apart buildings were constructed on the side of the yard. From the side of Aram Street, sculptural compositions have been installed.

It is one of the first major maternity hospitals in Yerevan.
