1942

State Index: 1.6.43

Architect: Mark Grigoryan

The building is located on Mashtots Avenue. The design process began in 1937, and construction was completed in 1942. The building has four floors. Its main section faces Mashtots Avenue, while the other sections face Moskovyan Street and Isahakyan Street. The 2nd to 4th floors are residential. The building consists of 52 apartments. Various architectural features characteristic of the classical style were used. The construction materials are gray basalt and pink felsite.

One of Yerevan residents’ favorite cafés, “Skvoznyachok” (“Breeze”), was located on the first floor of the building. The House of Art Workers and the editorial office of the magazine “Soviet Art” were also located here.

The building was constructed for actors and art workers. Outstanding masters of the Armenian stage and cultural figures lived here. Memorial plaques dedicated to Hrachya Nersisyan, Shara Talyan, Vavik Vardanyan, David Malyan, Gurgen Gabrielyan, Ashot Satyan, Mikayel Maluntsyan, Vagharsh Vagharshyan, Avet Avetyan, and S. Stepanyan are installed on the façades of the building.

The Actors’ Residential Building is one of the prominent architectural structures of Yerevan from the 1930s–1950s.
