MILITARY CEMETERY MEMORIAL OF THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR
1941, 1982
The military memorial is located in the central cemetery of Yerevan. It
occupies an area of 17.6 x 10.1 m.
Back in the years of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), Armenian and foreign
soldiers and officers who died in Yerevan military hospitals were buried here.
In 1980-1982. a military memorial was created, for which the already formed
graves were taken as the basis.
The complex includes a memorial wall, a monument with sculptures of
soldiers, and tombstones (26 rows, 10 in each) placed on both sides of the
basalt paved road leading to the monument, on which the names of the deceased
are written in Russian. Tuff, basalt, etc. were used as building materials.
The military cemetery is home to Armenian heroes of the Soviet Union,
prominent Armenian figures of the Soviet Army, Armenian and foreign soldiers
and officers: Hero of the USSR, Major General Ashot Ghazaryan (1921-1995),
Commander of the Tamanyan N 89 Armenian Division, Major General Nver Safaryan
(1907-1982), Hero of the USSR Ashkharhabek Ghazaryan (1921-1986), Hero of the
USSR, Colonel Andranik Manukyan (1916-1986), Hero of the USSR, Colonel,
archaeologist Gedeon Mikaelyan (1907-1985), Hero of the USSR, Lieutenant
General Sargis Martirosyan (1900-1984), Hero of the USSR, Colonel Georgy
Hakobyans (1920-1976), Major General Nikolay Novitsky. (-1945, moved from the
Children's Park), Aviation Major General Aram Sarkisyan (Sargsyan) (1922-1985),
Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Professor
Ruben Barseghyan (1933-2006), Honored Doctor of the Republic of Armenia,
Professor Gagik Mkhoyan (1950-2009) and others.
