MONUMENT TO WILLIAM SAROYAN

The statue of the famous American-Armenian writer
William Saroyan (1908-1981) is located near the intersection of Mashtots Avenue
and Moskovyan Street.
The proposal to install the statue was made by the
President of the Pan-Armenian Geographical Association, Rafael Hovhannisyan. It
was dedicated to the writer’s 100th birthday.
The solemn opening took place on December 13, 2008.
The authors of the monument are sculptor David
Yerevantsi (Babayan), and architects Levon Igityan and Ruben Hasratyan.
The monument is made of bronze, with a height of 3.2
meters and a weight of 500 kg. They cast it in Prague, and then transported it
to Armenia.
