WINEPRESS N 6 IN DALMA GARDEN
XIX century
The winepress is located in the northern part of the park, approximately 380 meters northwest of the boundary line of “Yerevan Park” amusement center.
It was constructed
in the XIX century, during the reign of Hossein Qoli Khan, the last Persian
sardar of Yerevan (1807-1828), when the Dalma Canal was reopened, new
gardens were established, viticulture and winemaking gained new momentum, many
wineries and cellars were built.
The structure exhibits a rectangular plan slightly deviated from
the east-west axis, with dimensions measuring 12.50 x 6.40 meters. In its
current state of ruin, the half-preserved southern wall, extending 12.50 meters
in length, is clearly visible, featuring small rectangular niches. The north
wall is destroyed. The remnants of other walls are obscured by earthen filling.
The entrance is not highlighted, and the broken cover might have been vaulted. The
structure is filled with rubble, obscuring any visibility of a grape pressing
basin or other details.
It is built of raw and rough basalt. On the Northern part,
mounded vineyards have been preserved.
It is acknowledged that winepresses were frequently repurposed
as sheds, and it is plausible that this structure served such a function.
