State index: 1.6.76.2
It
is located on the left bank of the Hrazdan River, in the territory of the
former Yerevan fortress in the area between
Argishti, Gr. Lusavorich, Arshakunyats, Brusov streets. It occupies 8.6 square
feet territory.
On October 1st, in 1827, after capturing the Yerevan fortress, the Russian troops kept it only as a military post for certain time. The fortress was officially abolished as a military fortification in 1864, but the garrison remained as a road junction controller and buttress of the tsarism authorities. In the initial period, some buildings of the fortress were used, and only in the 1850s-1880s., they were demolished and replaced by new structures decorated to serve to the accommodation, military, educational and other purposes needed by the Russian garrison (second half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century). The Russian army complex continued to operate during the Soviet rules and independence years. In 2018 its operation was terminated.
The
entrance of the army complex is on the northern outpost. The area is in a
proper condition. It has a spacious parade ground (platz), pool, park. In the
1990s, memorials dedicated to the martyrs of the "Deadly Eagle" and
the Special Squad were erected in memory of the victims of the Artsakh
Liberation War. It is delimited from the surrounding structuring area by walls,
that include about two dozen buildings. Two of them are two-storey, the rest
are one-storey. The rectangular-planned buildings situated at a certain
distance from each other were used as barracks, ammunition, food and other
warehouses, headquarters, club, hospital, canteen, etc. Despite the internal
structural difference (according to their operational significance), all
buildings have the same architectural solutions for the exterior facades. They
are built by a combination of greyish, black, brown and smooth tuff.
