Early 20th century
State index: 1.6.20
Architect:
Vasily Mirzoyan
Located at the intersection of Abovyan and Heratsi
streets, at 68 Abovyan Street.
It belonged to the actual state councilor, director of
the Yerevan Male Classical Gymnasium, chairman of the pedagogical council of
the Hripsimyan Female Gymnasium, and honorary justice of the peace Vladimir
Osipovich Brazhnikov.
In 1895, Brazhnikov bought a plot of land at the end
of Astafyan Street (now Abovyan), where he built a one-story house in the early
20th century (designed by civil engineer Vasily Mirzoyan).
The house was nationalized in 1922 and transferred to
the People’s Commissariat of Health. It was allocated to the first city
hospital, for which a second floor was built in the 1920s. In 1925, the
geological museum of the state university was opened here. The institutes of
archaeology and geology of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR were
housed in Brazhnikov's house (1950s-1970s).
It is built from Yerevan black tuff.
