RESIDENTIAL HOUSE OF “PROFESSORS” (“SPECIALISTS”)

Located at 32 Abovyan Street, on the street's building
line. Designed in 1932, built in 1933.
Known as the “House of Professors” or “House of Specialists”.
One of the first
medium-rise buildings (4-5 floors) in Yerevan, the construction of which was
dictated by the growth of the capital and changes in the scale of development.
A two-section,
five-story building with two- and three-room apartments (37.0 and 64.4 sq. m).
The three-room apartments also included a room for a domestic worker, which was
an innovation in design.
On the fifth floor are artists’ workshops.
This building was
home to prominent figures of Armenian culture and science: architects, writers,
composers, artists, doctors - Hambardzum Kechek, Grigor Ghapantsyan, Arsen
Terteryan, Stepan Zoryan, Gevorg Abov, Sedrak Arakelyan, Gabriel Gyurjian,
Ruben Drambyan, Mikael Mazmanyan, Gevorg Kochar, Ashot Ter-Mkrtchyan, Haykanush
Danielyan, Haro Stepanyan.
In front of the building, there is a monument
dedicated to the benefactors of Armenian culture.
