HOLY CROSS CHURCH
The Holy Cross Church stands out with its unique architecture in the Arabkir administrative district. 2018
The location of the construction of the Holy Cross Church is not accidental. There was once a sanctuary here, nearby was the Holy Virgin Church, which was later demolished.
The
church was built by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin under the auspices of
the Armenian General Benevolent Union, represented by Louise Simone Manukyan,
and has been operating since 2018. The architect of the church is Artak
Ghulyan. In 2009, a khachkar was installed in the area adjacent to the church
with the donation of Eduard Musheghyan. The foundation blessing of the church
took place in 2013.
In
2016, the 5 bells of the church were consecrated, each of which has its own
name and symbol. The first bell has the symbol of faith, bears ornamental
carvings depicting the feasts of the Holy Resurrection, the Holy Nativity, and
the Holy Cross. The second bell symbolizes patriotism, and bears the icon of
Saint Gregory of Narek. The third bell symbolizes parental love. The bell
symbolizes the icon of the Holy Virgin Mary. The fourth bell symbolizes filial
love. With its ringing, it announces the birth and revelation of Jesus Christ.
It bears a decorative carving depicting the Revelation. The fifth bell
symbolizes Baptism.
The
feast of the Apparition of the Holy Cross is the feast day of the Holy Cross
Church in Arabkir. On that day, a sacred relic is brought to the church and a
Divine Liturgy is served.
