MONUMENT "OLD AND NEW MALATYA"

The monument is located in the park not far from St. Astvatsatsin Church in Malatia-Sebastia administrative district. It is dedicated to the memory of the victims from the city of Malatia (nowadays in Turkey) martyred during the Armenian Genocide in 1915. The inhabitants of the district, among them many people who are generations of those who migrated from Old Malatia, named their district the New Malatia and had installed the monument in honor of the old and new, reborn Malatias.
The monument consists of a complex, stepped configuration of two walls. The laying of symmetrical bulges, that form a sculpture installed in the wall full of universal lights and shades, a stepped growth of stone space to the center, stepped silhouettes and bright red building stones created impressive plastic structure.
The monument has a unique architectural feature, a gradual and following revelation of walls.
The dynamic entity summarized in the spiral composition makes the visitor to rotate around the monument, look at all sides, open the new edges of the image adoption, new perspectives and new depictions of its parts. It is made by a red smooth tuff. The area of the monument was improved in 1982 and 2015.
