HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
The
building was built in 1954 as the administrative building of the Writers' Union
of Armenia and the Writers' House.
Initially,
the building was in the form of a two-story mansion, located in a small park on
Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, which is generally typical of the development of
that part of the avenue.
The
building is symmetrical. The central part is solved in the form of a
semicircular volume protruding from the general area, decorated with an elegant
archway, where the main entrance is located.
On
the first floor there is a lobby, halls and service rooms. In the basement
there is a cloakroom and a cafe. On the second floor there is a hall. In the
annexed part there are service rooms.
In
the 1970s, a third floor was built on the central two-story volume, and a
four-story volume was attached from the courtyard. After the reconstruction,
the building lost its integrity and scale.
It
is built of red, polished tuff, with a midis arrangement. It is one of the
major social and cultural centers of Yerevan.
In
terms of art, it is typical of Soviet Armenian architecture of the 1950s.
