The ruins of the building were found in the former fortress of Yerevan, in the area adjacent to Argishti Street, in a dense residential area. It was built during the reign of the last Persian sardar of Yerevan, Hussein Ghuli Khan, and was named after Abbas Mirza. The facades and dome of the building were faced with blue and green clay tiles. After the capture of the fortress by Russian troops (October 1827), it was turned into an arsenal.
According to the Yerevan urban plan compiled by architect Boris Mehrabyan in 1906-1911, it is indicated as the "Castle Mosque" on the eastern side of the Sardar's Palace.
It remains an important example of Persian religious architecture.
