Komitas Museum-Institute
Komitas Museum-Institute is dedicated to promoting the creative legacy of Komitas Vardapet, the founder of the Armenian national school of music composition.
The
Komitas Museum-Institute is located in Komitas Park and is built on the basis
of the former Palace of Culture, which was designed by the architect Koryun
Hakobyan in the 1950s, and the architect of the newly created building is Artur
Meschyan. The Komitas Museum-Institute was officially opened in 2015. This
scientific and cultural institution is equipped with modern technologies and
features a multifunctional structure, including halls for permanent and
temporary exhibitions, a concert hall, a music library, and a publishing house.
At the Komitas Museum-Institute, traditional and academic music concerts,
lectures, and seminars are held, as well as the "Komitas"
International Conference-Festival. The museum organizes number of educational
programs designed for various age and social groups, as well as a summer
school. At the museums research institute, scientific studies are conducted on
the life and work of Komitas, as well as on Armenian traditional and classical
music. The Komitas Museum-Institute's publishing house releases monographs,
collections of scientific articles, songbook series, music scores, exhibition
catalogues, and other studies related to Komitas. The Komitas Museum-Institute
also houses a music library, which includes a rich collection of musicological
books and music records.
VISITOR INFORMATION
Тhe
permanent exhibition consists of eight halls, showcasing the life journey of
Komitas, his work as a musicologist, composer, ethnographer, and performer. In
the temporary exhibition hall, the museum periodically organize exhibitions
dedicated to Komitas, his activities, his era and contemporaries, as well as
various art forms (music, painting, photography, etc.).
