History Museum of Armenia
The mission of the History Museum of Armenia is to preserve, replenish, study and publicize the Museum objects and collections, which represent the history and culture of Armenia and the Armenian people.
The History Museum of Armenia was founded on September 9, 1919, based on Law No. 439 of the Parliament of the First Republic of Armenia. It was initially named the “Ethnographic-Anthropological Museum-Library.” It opened its doors to visitors on August 20, 1921. The museum’s name has changed several times: it was the State Central Museum of Armenia (1922), the Cultural-Historical Museum (1931), the Historical Museum (1935), and the State History Museum of Armenia (1962). Since 2003, it has been known as the History Museum of Armenia.

The History Museum of Armenia is a cultural organization of national significance that has been engaged for over a century in acquiring, collecting, cataloguing, preserving, studying, interpreting, and exhibiting the material and intangible cultural values related to Armenia and the Armenian people. It has contributed to the development of science, education, and tourism. With a collection of over 400,000 archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, and other artefacts, the museum strives to bridge the past and the future. The museum’s collection provides a comprehensive picture of Armenian culture and history, from prehistoric times (approximately 1.8 million years ago) to the present day.
