HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
UNIVERSITY COMPLEX: NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF ARMENIA, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIA
1926, 1933-1971
The
complex is located on Teryan Street. It occupies the northwestern part of the
Student District situated at the foot of the Kanaker Plateau.
The
location of the complex was determined by the Yerevan Master Plan of 1924
(architect: Alexander Tamanian).
Construction
began in 1926 with the building of the Faculty of Chemistry (architect:
Alexander Tamanian). In 1929, the administrative building was constructed
(architect: Alexander Tamanian). Among the earliest structures were also the
former student dormitories (1930s), some of which were later demolished and
replaced by new buildings.
In
1953–1963, the main building of the institute was constructed (architect:
Artashes Mamijanian), followed in the late 1960s by the research building
(architect: Artashes Mamijanian), and in 1971 by the radioelectronics building.
In
the 1980s, the library and sports facilities were built. The architects of the
other buildings include Samvel Safaryan, Tiran Marutyan, Mikayel Mazmanyan,
Gevorg Kochar, Ardvard Kanayan, Rafael Israelyan, and others. Artashes
Mamijanian also worked on the master plan of the complex.
