HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
RESIDENTIAL BUILDING OF PROFESSORS (SPECIALISTS)
1933
The building is located on
Abovyan Street. It was designed in 1932 and constructed in 1933. It is known as
the “Professors’ Building” or the “Specialists’ Building.”
It is a five-story, two-section
residential building with two- and three-room apartments. The three-room
apartments also included a room for domestic staff, which was an innovation in
architectural design at the time. The fifth floor houses artists’ studios.
Prominent representatives of
Armenian culture and science lived in this building, including architects,
writers, composers, painters, and physicians: Hambardzum Kechek, Grigor
Ghapantsyan, Arsen Terteryan, Stepan Zoryan, Gevorg Abov, Sedrak Arakelyan, Gabriel
Gyurjyan, Ruben Drambyan, Mikayel Mazmanyan, Gevorg Kochar, Ashot
Ter-Mkrtchyan, Haykanush Danielyan, and Haro Stepanyan.
A memorial monument dedicated
to distinguished figures of Armenian culture is installed in front of the
building.
