2003
State index: 1.1.17
Sculptor: Levon Tokmajyan
The
bust of Soghomon Tehlerian
(1896-1960), an Armenian avenger who survived the Armenian Genocide, a figure
in the national liberation movement, a participant in the "Nemesis"
operation, and a member of the ARF, is located at the intersection of
Shinararneri, Estonakan, and Arakelyan streets in the Ajapnyak administrative
district. On March 15, 1921, on Hardenberg Street in the Charlottenburg
district of Berlin, he confronted and killed Talaat Pasha, the Minister of
Internal Affairs of the Young Turk government and the main organizer of the
1915 Armenian Genocide. Based on the irrefutable facts of the genocide
presented during the trial, as well as under pressure from progressive European
society, the Berlin court acquitted him on June 2 of the same year.
The
tombstone is made of a single piece of basalt. Inscribed on the central part of
the front is: SOGHOMON TEHLERYAN.
