KARABAKH WOMAN

The
sculpture "Karabakh Woman" is located near the National Academic
Theater of Opera and Ballet, in the park adjacent to the intersection of
Sayat-Nova Avenue and Teryan Street.
The
sculptor created the sculpture in the image of Arev Baghdasaryan, a People's
actress of the Armenian SSR, people's singer and solo dancer, a native of
Shushi. The sculpture was installed several years after its creation, on
November 11, 1988, after the Artsakh movement, since the Soviet authorities had
forbidden its installation in Yerevan.
It
is placed on a low, rectangular platform, where it is engraved:
IN
MEMORY OF PEOPLE'S ARTIST AREV BAGHDASARYAN.
The
sculpture is made of bronze, height 3 m.
