2004
Sculptor: Arsen
Avetisyan
The statue of Franz Werfel, an Austrian
writer, humanist, author of the novel "The 40 Days of Musa Dagh", is
located in the first district of Nor Nork, in the Fridtjof Nansen Park.
A large fragment of black tuff is placed
on a sacred, basalt pedestal, on the front facade of which Werfel is depicted,
with his arms outstretched, as if carrying the weight of the suffering
experienced by the Armenian people during the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Above his
head is a sculpture of an Armenian church. On the other facades are carved
scenes of the Armenian Genocide, people fighting and being saved, fragments of
khachkars. On the south facade is the name of the writer: ՖՐԱՆՑ ՎԵՐՖԵԼ / FRANS
WERFEL. The height of the monument is 2.25 m.
