MONUMENT TO LEVON ORBEL
1973
State index: 1.3.17
Sculptor: Gabriel Yeproyan
The
bust of Levon Orbel (1882-1958), an Armenian physiologist, one of the founders
of the Soviet evolutionary physiology doctrine, academician of the USSR (1935)
and the Armenian SSR (1943), colonel general of the medical service, member of
various foreign societies and academies, brother of prominent scientists Hovsep
and Ruben Orbeli, is installed near the building of the Institute of Physiology
named after the great scientist, on Orbeli Brothers Street. The gray basalt
bust is placed on a rectangular, one-piece high pedestal. It is striking in its
great resemblance to a statue. The principle of evenly grained stone processing
is applied, which emphasizes the sculptor's skill.
