THE NORTHERN ENTRANCE OF YEREVAN

It
is located at the beginning of the Sevan highway, at the Avan-Kanaker road
junction. It is made of red tuff, and is installed on a multi-stepped platform
paved with basalt. The facets of the cube-shaped obelisk are decorated with
geometrical and vegetal sculptures resembling a human face. It is engraved
YEREVAN in cuneiform characters, in Armenian and foreign languages on the facet
dimensions. It symbolizes the northern entrance to the capital city.
